Chenin had seen my various Michigan themed Inkwell designs, but she wanted to tailor them more towards something that was meaningful to her. She asked me to create a custom designed suite, with the feel of Up North Michigan.
When Chenin and I first started brainstorming ideas for her invites, she told me that she lives in Chicago, but has vacationed in Michigan for years. It is also where her groom-to-be proposed, overlooking lake Michigan on the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Most of her guests are from out of town, so this was to be a destination affair of sorts. We decided to do a whole “pack your bags, load up the car and travel to Michigan” theme. It was also important to convey the rustic beauty of upper Michigan. The response card is an image of the Sleeping Bear Dunes where Rick proposed to Chenin. She loved the image of two deer in love, so I created a custom monogram with deer heads and hearts. Initially she wanted to print everything on craft stock for the added rustic look. I have been dying to try screen printing so I convinced her to one up it and go this route. We had Mama’s Sauce print them on super thick chipboard. The end result…beauty!
Another fan part to her suite was the football ticket invitations. Both Chenin and Rick are graduates of Big Ten Universities and anyone that follows college football, knows that watching your team every Saturday in the fall is a big deal. Being that their wedding weekend is in October and will fall on a football Saturday, they decided that a fun activity for their guests would be to gather and watch the game at a local Traverse City bar, prior to the wedding on Sunday. I designed the invites to look a game ticket, incorporating blues and greens. Colors that you see so much of in the lakes, sky and trees up north.
